Contact Lens Care and Safety
Can I share my Contacts with my friends?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! When lenses are shared, microscopic organisms are transferred between the wearers and serious eye problems can result, including possible eye infection or other dangerous eye conditions. Always follow your Eye Care Professionals instruction on care and handling of contact lenses.
Are Colored Contacts Safe?
If used in a responsible manner as instructed by our care guide and your Eye Care Professional, with whom you have obtained a contact lens prescription, our Color Contacts are extremely safe.
Even though Color Contacts can really transform your look, always remember that your eyes are very precious. Color Contacts have to be treated with the same level of care that a regular contact lens wearer would take when caring for their regular contact lenses. NEVER share lenses with anyone else and NEVER wear someone else's lenses. When lenses are shared, microscopic organisms are transferred between the wearers and serious eye problems can result. There have been cases of individuals contracting serious eye infections after having worn costume contact lenses, the lenses themselves aren't the cause. Most times the problems have been caused by poor hygiene, improper lens care and sharing of lenses between friends. Always follow your Eye Care Professionals instruction on care and handling of contact lenses to keep your eyes safe and healthy.
Our lenses are manufactured using the same materials, processes and in the same machines used to make conventional (clear) contacts. They are manufactured, packaged and sterilized to the highest international standards for contact lenses and are fully in compliance with US contact lens manufacture, packaging and sterilization regulations. The only difference is that a layer of color is machine printed onto the front surface of the lens. Because the color is on the outside of the lens, it does not actually touch your eye. The color layer is sealed over with a thin layer of clear contact lens material to ensure it does not flake off or irritate your eye. If cared for properly and fitted on the advice of a licensed eye care professional, they are perfectly safe for your eyes and are just as comfortable as regular clear contacts.
One word of caution though, Color contact lenses should not be worn for extended periods of time, usually no more than 8 hours at a time or as recommended by your eye doctor. Because they are slightly thicker than regular contacts, not as much oxygen is able to penetrate the lens and reach your eye. Lenses worn for long periods of time will cause your eyes to become red and irritated. Most people report that they are comfortable if worn for less than 8 hours at a time. If you have very sensitive eyes, you might feel some irritation and discomfort during shorter wear periods. As with regular contacts, Color lenses need proper cleaning. Always wash your hands before handling your lenses and rinse your lenses with fresh contact lens solution before inserting them in your eyes. Always follow the recommendations of your eye doctor.
What Solutions should I use with my Contact Lenses?
You can use an all purpose, all in one solution which is available at your local drug store. With this solution you can clean, lubricate, disinfect and store your lenses.
How long will my Contact Lenses last?
Our Colored Contact Lenses are designed to be 90 day disposables, meaning that they should be replaced every 3 months. They will however last for one year with occasional use and if handled with care.
Contact Lens Care and Instruction
Preparing Your Lenses for Insertion:
1. Begin by washing your hands with a NON CREAM BASED soap, rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint-free towel prior to inserting your lenses. A wet finger may cause a soft lens to flatten or stick to your finger when you attempt to insert the lens.
2. Avoid using fingernails to handle your lenses.
3. Do not work with your lenses over a sink; you could lose one down the drain. If you do work near the sink, close the drain. If the lens drops in the sink, you should disinfect the lens again.
4. Pour the lens and storage fluid from the lens case into your palm. Inspect the lenses for particles, deposits, small crack or tears. Upon opening your new lens package, ensure that lenses sit in fresh solution for 4 to 6 hours, followed by proper Cleaning Instructions. (section on Cleaning Your Lenses).
5. Place the lens, cup side up, on your dry index finger.
6. Make sure the lens is not inside out. If it is, reverse it. If it is right side out, (correct) the edge of the lens will appear almost straight up. If it is in the (incorrect) position the edges will flare out.
7. Hold the upper lashes and eyelid against the bony ridge just below the brow and hold your mouth open as wide as possible at the same time, to prevent blinking.
8. Pull the lower lid down using your middle finger. Look up so that the white of your eye is showing.
9. Place the lens onto the exposed white of your eye and move the lens onto the centre of your eye with the lower lid.
10. Remove your finger and release the lid. Lower lid first, and then the upper one.
11. Look downward to help the lens and then close your eyes momentarily.
12. If your lenses feel dry or if your vision is blurred, BLINK HARD SEVERAL TIMES. If the redness or blurry vision persists after blinking, apply one or two comfort drops (eye drops). If your vision is still blurred remove your lens and consult an eye care professional.
13. Repeat this procedure to insert the other lens.
It is advisable to place solution in your lens carrying case and carry it with you at all times. You never know when you may have to remove your lenses.
First time lens users - Easy Hints:
1. After reading the sections on “Preparing Your Lenses for Insertion” & “Cleaning Your Lenses”, pour the lens and storage fluid from the lens case into your palm. Inspect the lenses for particles, deposits, small crack or tears. Upon opening your new lens package, ensure that lenses sit in fresh solution for 4 to 6 hours, followed by proper Cleaning Instructions
2. You will have far more success and satisfaction with the lens if you follow this schedule. Your eyes need time to adjust to the lens.
Day 1 - 1 hour of wear
Day 2 - 2 hours of wear
Day 3 - 3 hours of wear
Day 4 - 3 hour of wear
Day 5 - 3 hours of wear
Day 6 - 4 hours of wear
Day 7 - 5 hour of wear
Day 8 - 6 to 8 hours of wear
and always remember to follow the “Cleaning Your Lenses” daily section of this guide.
3. Reaction of first time contact lens use include; tearing, redness and sensitivity to light, itchiness, increased blinking, and movement of the lens.
4. As your eyes adapt to wearing lenses these symptoms will gradually diminish.
How to Remove Your Lenses:
1. Wash and dry your hands and close any nearby drains.
2. Place your index finger on the lower eyelid of your right eye and pull the eyelid down.
3. Touch the lower edge of the lens with the tip of your finger.
4. While still looking up, slide the lens downward to the white of your eye using your index finger.
5. Still looking up and holding the lens under the index finger, move your thumb so you can compress the lens lightly between the thumb and the index finger, then gently remove the “folded up” lens from the white of the eye.
6. If you have difficulty removing the lens, place a few comfort drops in the eye, wait a few minutes and try again.
7. Upon removal, place the lens in your palm ready to be cleaned, followed by placing the lens in the case with fresh solution.
Cleaning Your Lenses:

1. You must clean and disinfect your lenses each time you remove them.
2. Wash & dry your hands with a lint free towel and place the lens in your palm.
3. Squeeze several drops of daily contact lens all purpose solution into your palm.
4. Rub one side of the lens with the solution against the palm of your hand using your index finger for about 5 seconds, in a straight back and forth motion. Then turn the lens over and repeat the cleaning process, adding a few more drops of solution.
5. Rinse the lens thoroughly with more all purpose solution. Never use homemade solutions or tap water, they may contain organisms that could cause an infection.
Storing Your Lenses for disinfection:
1. Fill your case with contact lens disinfection solution. Place your lenses in the storage case. If a soft lens dries out, it will shrivel-up and can break easily.
2. A dried lens can be rehydrated in the recommended solution. Check it for rips or tears, then clean and disinfect it (you must store the lens for a minimum of 6 hours for disinfection to be complete) before putting it back into your eyes.
3. Never store soft lenses in tap water, mineral water or anything other than sterile soft lens solution as there is a risk of infection.
Making Cleanliness a Habit:
Want to make the most of your contact lenses? For great vision & healthy, comfortable lens wear, keep these guidelines in mind.
1. These lenses are for cosmetic purposes and should only be worn for 6 to 8 hours at a time, even if they feel comfortable.
2. Never sleep or nap while wearing your lenses.
3. Apply cosmetics after you insert your lens and remove cosmetics after removing your lenses. Water based cosmetics are less damaging to your lens then oil based.
4. Avoid handling of your lenses for too long before inserting them or you could cause an eye irritation.
5. Never swim while wearing your lenses. It is very likely that you will lose them and if not lost they may get contaminated.
6. Do not get lotions, creams or sprays in your eyes or on your lenses and avoid the presence of chemicals.
7. Never skip in lens care. Cleaning by itself is not enough. You must store your lenses in fresh solution at least twice per week and for no less than 6 hours in your all purpose disinfecting solution.
Contact Lens Safety
First-time and even more experienced wearers of Colored contacts are often “looking through rose-colored glasses”. Excited only about the cosmetic benefits that their new lenses provide, some consumers put the ramifications and details of their safe use a far second behind “looks”.
However, taking care of Colored contacts in between uses should be the first order of business. This is not only essential for keeping contact lenses in top condition, free of wear and tear, but more importantly vital for the health and wellbeing of the wearer. Failing to follow a proper cleaning protocol may put the consumer at risk for a host of eye infections, some of which can be very serious and possibly result in blindness.
With the proper instructions and a few supplies, contact lens care is a simple task that will allow the wearer to enjoy their new lenses as long as possible. Basic maintenance of your Color contacts includes four easy-to-follow steps; prepare, clean, rinse, and disinfect.
• Prepare: Wash your hands to remove dirt and germs that could contaminate your eyes; avoid moisturizing or cream-based soaps as they are not good for colored contacts. Dry with a clean, lint-free towel.
• Clean: Avoiding your fingernails, remove one contact lens and clean it in the solution product recommended by your eye care professional. Place a few drops of the solution into the palm of your hand and gently rub lens with index finger to remove debris. Add more solution and flip over lens to repeat process.
• Rinse: Rinse lens with more solution to wash away dirt and build-up; don’t skimp on this step. Also, never use water from the tap as a rinsing agent as it contains micro-organisms that could cause an unwanted infection.
• Disinfect: Store your color contact lens in a clean case that has been filled with fresh solution to begin the disinfection process. “Topping off” your lens case with a bit of solution is like mixing clean with dirty; don’t do it! Allow your contact lenses to disinfect in the solution for the full amount of time, often 6 hours or longer, or as recommended by the manufacturer.
Following these simple steps will keep your contact lenses sterile and clean for your next wearing. These basic care instructions will remove build-up, cosmetics, allergens and other debris that can muck up your lenses, making them uncomfortable to wear. When you follow the steps you will be happy with your contact lenses and they will be happy with you!
Other good habits to form for safe wearing of Colored contact lenses are to limit wearing for 6 to 8 hours at a time; do not wear them for napping or overnight sleeping. Even if the contact lenses are not bothering you, your eyes still need time to get fresh air and rest. When applying makeup, insert your cleaned lenses after you have fixed yourself up; use water-based cosmetics rather than oil-based cosmetics when at all possible. When washing your face at night, do so after you have first removed, cleaned and disinfected your contact lenses according to the directions.

Contact Lens FAQ's
Do I need a Prescription to order Contact Lenses?
Yes. The FDA now considers all contact lens a medical device (this includes Plano lenses) and can only be sold with the involvement of an Eye Care Professional. Color-My-Eyes cares about you and your vision. Due to new Federal law it is required that you, the customer, see an eye care professional and obtain a valid prescription before purchasing any corrective or Plano contact lenses. Once you have obtained your prescription, you may fax a copy to Color-My-Eyes at (678) 669-1911 or email it to cme@c47-marketing.com. Be sure to include your Doctor's name and phone number so we can verify your prescription. This process takes approximately 24 hours. Once verified, your order will be processed and shipped.
How do I send you my Prescription?

What is "Power" and "Plano"?
Power refers to the strength of vision correction for contact lenses. If you do not require any vision correction please choose the Plano option (0.00) when purchasing contact lenses.
Will my Prescription for Eye Glasses work for Contacts?
No. The prescription type for eyeglasses and contact lenses is entirely different. Glasses sit a small distance away from your eyes whereas contact lenses sit directly on the cornea (the clear front surface of your eye). Each requires a different type of examination. You will need to see your Eye Care Professional to obtain a valid Contact Lens prescription before purchasing any corrective or Plano contact lenses.
Are Colored Contacts comfortable?
New users may experience some discomfort at first but if you follow the guidelines set out in our lens care and first time use guide, you will find that our lenses are very comfortable and durable.
Will Color Contacts affect my vision?
The opening in the contact lenses for your pupil has been optimized in size so as to limit interference with your vision. You may however, experience some loss of peripheral vision while wearing the lenses.
